The Story Behind Ugo Ndi Igbo
A quiet crisis, happening in plain sight.
Across Igbo homes, a growing number of young people cannot hold a full conversation in their mother tongue. Cultural rites that once marked every major life stage are fading into ceremony without meaning, or disappearing altogether. Many young Igbo men and women can recite global trends with ease but struggle to name their own kindred customs, proverbs, or the values their grandparents lived by.
This is not a failure of the youth. It is a failure of transmission, and transmission is a responsibility that belongs to all of us.
Ugo Ndi Igbo was born from a simple but urgent conviction. Our founders came together around one question: if no one stands in the gap now, who inherits the gap tomorrow?
“A people who forget their language and traditions do not simply lose culture. They lose a compass.”
